I’m convinced that building community is one of the biggest keys to success in the design industry. Myself, along with the other businesses in the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce received an email from a very excited Brianne Hudak, an educator that moved to Western North Carolina in the past couple of years. She was announcing that she is starting Journeys School for the Gifted and Talented, and wanted to introduce herself as the Founder and Head of School. I replied, we met up, and I instantly knew that she understood the benefits of graphic design when she said “I’m excited to have you design our school’s identity.” She understood that the school needed a logo, but it also needed an identity that captures who they are from their tone, voice, and messaging to their visual presence.
The Brief:
The Journey School for the Gifted and Talented exists to provide an alternative solution to the current education system. Providing individualized education, a focus on nature, and intentional lesson plans, Journey School aims to raise the standard of classroom education. Visually, the identity of the school is professional, regal, and inspiring. The logo and branding elements should instill a sense of excellence and high standards while still feeling warm, welcoming, and humble instead of intimidating or arrogant.
